The federal government is set to unveil a “major” relief package today (Thursday), as hinted by official social media posts from government representatives and high-ranking officials.

On Wednesday, the government’s official X account teased “great news for the entire nation,” using the hashtag ‘Small Eid, Big Gift’, signaling a potential Eidul Fitr-related announcement.

The ruling PML-N also confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would make an important announcement, describing it as a “big gift” from the federal government to the people.

Meanwhile, *Rana Sanaullah, the PM’s aide, suggested that the relief package would help *“thwart Pakistan’s default plot.”* He emphasized economic improvements, stating: “Stock market rally, remittances rise, and inflation fall—tomorrow the propaganda of despair will end!”*

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif echoed similar sentiments, calling it “good news” and attributing it to economic progress and hard work since 2022. However, he did not disclose specifics of the package.

This announcement follows Pakistan’s recent financial achievements, including securing a $1.3 billion arrangement with the IMF and the successful first review of the 37-month bailout programme.

Additionally, the IMF confirmed a *Re1 per unit reduction in electricity tariffs, made possible through a grid levy on **industrial captive power plants, ensuring *widespread benefits for consumers.

As anticipation builds, all eyes are on today’s announcement, expected to bring relief amid economic challenges.
